William Prince: Historical Fiction Author

I am a historical fiction writer, drawing on my native Northumberland for inspiration. Raised in a working-class industrial Tyneside home, I still live in the region with my family, where I enjoy my role as husband, father, and grandfather. My passion for history is further fuelled by my Honours Degree in History from Newcastle University, which, I feel, lends authenticity and depth to my storytelling.

About William Prince

From a young age, I have had a deep fascination with history, particularly the medieval era, and this has been my driving force. My lifelong interest has fuelled a passion for historical fiction, with a particular admiration for the works of Bernard Cornwell, Simon Scarrow, and Conn Iggulden, among others. The dramatic landscapes and rich history of Northumberland provides me with endless inspiration, with frequent visits to its numerous castles and ancient monuments offering tangible connections to the past. The very air of the region seems to whisper tales of bygone eras, igniting the imagination and sparking new story ideas.

Balancing the demands of writing with the necessary depth of historical research can sometimes be a challenge. Ensuring accuracy and authenticity while crafting compelling narratives requires dedication and meticulous attention to detail. However, I feel that the reward of bringing the past to life through vivid storytelling makes the effort worthwhile. The desire to share the captivating stories of history, particularly those rooted in the rugged beauty of Northumberland, continues to motivate me and inspire my creative process.

Explore my debut novel on the Wars of the Roses and experience the clash of steel, the whisper of treachery, and the burning ambition for a crown as a country's destiny hangs in the balance.

I’m not usually a fan of Historical Fiction but this novel, set at the beginning of the Wars of the Roses in Northumberland, had me entirely gripped.
Thanks to the excellent description of settings and utterly compelling characters, I couldn’t put it down. I read A Storm in the North over two months ago and I still find myself thinking about certain pivotal scenes and a number of the key players.
I feel that, as well as being entertained, I learnt about elements of history that I’d previously been unaware of. Prince weaves fiction with fact perfectly and I await Book 2 with bated breath.
