I really enjoyed getting to know Rob and all the characters in this book and quickly became emotionally invested in their well being. As Rob's story and the back story unfurled, I could feel the injustice and heartache of life at that time in history. By the end of the book l was willing Rob to have a happy ending but guess that will have to wait for the next book to see if it happens.
The vivid descriptions and captivating writing draw you into the opposing harshness and beauty depicted both in the Northumberland landscape and of life itself.
Couldn't put it down! Roll on book 2!!!!

I absolutely loved “Storm In The North ” I felt as though I had been transported back in time , the characters were believable and I cared about them . I couldn’t put the book down . This would make a great film or drama series so descriptive, captivating and enthralling .
It was a memorable ending…I can’t wait for the Next “Storm in The North “ Part 2

A compelling tale of Plantagenent war set in a lovingly but not overly described north east of England, centering on ordinary people whose lives are torn apart by their social betters, the ones who lose their lives (if they are lucky) while aristocrats strut their vainglorious ambitions. A first class read that leaves the reader wanting more.

A brilliant historical book set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses. Similar in vein to Simon Scarrow and Bernard Cornwall. Plots, twists and backstabbing aplenty to decide the fate of the English Crown.

A wonderful first novel from William Prince, who clearly knows his subject area inside out. I don't read much historical fiction but thoroughly recommend this book. Pin sharp plotting, great characters and as pacy as a formula one car. Historical detail is on point and the fact it's set in Northumberland simply adds to the joy. It's such fun spotting local landmarks as the tale zips along. Would make an excellent TV series.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author, William Prince, engages his readers
from the very first line, skilfully guiding them through the intricacies of the Wars of the
Roses without overburdening them with over-complication. The list of characters
and their affiliations is a real help. A Storm in the North is gripping story, and the way
in which Prince weaves the multi-storylines together is remarkable. His detailed
descriptions of the everyday – the characters clothing, the food they ate, and his
often very graphic imagery of the battles/ atrocities committed - vividly bring the story
to life. This is a story that remains with you and will be just as good on re-reading it.
The final pages in which Prince brings everything together with hints of a continuing
story are magnificent. It’s hard to believe that this is the author’s first novel and I
very much looking forward to the sequel. I thoroughly recommend this book. Its
meticulous research will appeal to specialists and those interested in this period of
English history, the attention to geographic location will delight those familiar with
Northeast England, and the brilliance of the plot will instantly captivate anyone who
simply enjoys reading a riveting story.

I have eclectic taste when it comes to books, mainly I want to be entertained. I want the story teller to take me by the hand and lead me through his tale. Well this does all of that in spades. More twists than a road over the Pennines, dastardly villains, heroes in the making and we've barely made it to the first battle of the War of the Roses. Excellent plot and great characters a genuine page turner set against a historically correct background. Already on the waiting list for book 2.

The writing in this novel is absolutely great. I didn't expect an historical adventure to be written in such a poetic and descriptive way. The world created is vivid and jumps off the page. It would be a great film or TV series.
The arc of William and Rob's relationship is very well done and builds up, letting the reader see them as very rounded characters. Rob leaving the Inn due to boredom and the whole premise of being 'careful what you wish for,' works well and is as relevant for people today as then.
Totally recommend this book. It is one you wont want to put down and will think about long after you've finished it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! I cared about the characters and their fates and, at the same time, learned about a period in the history of my part of the country that has somehow eluded me. Would recommend!

I haven't enjoyed a story as much since GofT. A Storm in the North is so well researched and detailed but also is a true page turner. A belter of a book!
